Pace Yourself!

Seems like I was and on occasion still am running after all these years. I don't mean jogging or marathons, I mean the pace of life moving from one thing to the next, the to-do list.

I had discovered football (what Americans usually call soccer) when I was 22, began studying it, watching and attending pro games, practicing and playing it whenever I could.

Early on I noticed how there was a bit of standing but more often slow walking in movement as the ball and immediate play shifted the tactical sense of each match. Few players were constantly sprinting for the entire 90 minutes.

Though the players are some of the most physically fit of humans due to the regular training and nutrition, etc., pace is clearly part of the game, changing a team's rhythm to aid opportunities and thereby, a successful outcome.

As the years passed, between weight, increasing responsibilities and love of the sport I realized the only way I could manage was to attend to my own pace. There are times to move very quickly and times to slow walk, even pause and stand still. That's how one stays in the long game.

From time to time I accent how essential it is to take short breaks throughout the day. For one's mind, emotions, body and relationships with both people and God such is truly important.

What about spiritual health and vitality? Have you considered your pace?

"Be still and know that I am God" is part of an earthly life well lived. It's part of the most important relationship we will ever have- and it brings a peace that goes beyond the hectic and often burdensome parts of living in a fallen world we each and all deal with!

I've much work to do today. I'll take it piece by piece, little by little, pacing myself. And now it's time for coffee, some devos and prayer :)

As always, thanks for stopping by! -Glenn
