Well, first off most folks in this world never -have- a vacation, a holiday where they can "get away" to rest for a bit. An afternoon siesta or a 20 minute spell in the garden just isn't the same as a week or more.
I say this not from guilt that we had a week off, but recognizing that for many the issue isn't vacation breaks but rather survival. Whew. If the one or two percent of the earth's population would have a change of heart and mind- sharing even a 10th of their wealth with the poor this wouldn't be so.
Being a classic American I hit up the local Walmart and for about $7.50 got what I needed to build yet another 1 string slide guitar, this time repurposing a tin can which the contents the evening before helped out with our spaghetti dinner. Thus, a "canjo" was born using simple bolts, nuts, an eye bolt and wingnut and 2 paint sticks super-glued together and bolted to the can as a neck.
The next morning I went to the local hardware store for wire strong enough to hold but thin enough to play with a slide on my little home brew git.
Easier to use a guitar string but I didn't end up packing one so went for something more authentic on the "string", in this case 20 gauge galvanized steel wire anchored by a metal nut on the bottom outside of the can. Total cost about 10 bucks USD.
Brought a brass slide and pick along so playing-ready soon as I was finished and the string held pitch.
You never know what you can do if you've a sharp knife, screwdriver, a few parts, a free hour and a bit of patience, so that's how I "drilled" the holes to assemble this lil' thang. Fun!
I hope you are in peace regardless of your situation this summer (summer in our hemisphere anyhow).
It's really God's grace and relationship to Him in Jesus that grants one peace regardless of what one does or doesn't have.
Wishing my readers well!
As always, thanks for stopping by, -Glenn
