"If You Know What's Good For You..."

I often study etymology, that is, the origin of words, phrases and their meanings/definitions and use. This is an old phrase that's been around for many decades.

The issue of course, is most of us most of the time -think- we know "what's good for" us, or at least we're chasing whatever we currently think "it" is.

Further, an honest look into our own choices and history as well as human history at large reveals we often get it wrong, no? And we especially don't want anyone to tell us what to do, "what's good for" us!

God, throughout His Word (Bible) tells us what's good, indeed BEST for us but how often we'd rather not listen, read, apply, pay attention to Him -sigh...

At times He either sends or allows people, circumstances or both, even including pain to nudge us in -His- direction for our own true good.

Jesus said "My sheep hear my voice and I know them and they follow Me" also stating "I give unto them life and that more abundantly" but let's face it, we so often don't pay attention to the inner compass of conscience or the Holy Spirit whether He speaks with a "still, small voice" or comes as a "mighty rushing Wind" working to accomplish the will of our Lord and Savior in our life.

This is where the solid relational foundations of deep study of God's Word, continual prayer, seeking wise counsel from trustworthy and godly mentors and close, voluntary accountability (one-on-one, small groups and such) can truly get the "smoke and mirrors" out of our life -that is, IF we are willing to learn and know what's genuinely -the best- for us. THAT is the will of God for every individual.

Well, it's up to each of us of course, moment-by-moment.

As always, thanks for stopping by. -Glenn

Faith -that- Works?

Yep. Years ago we had a kitchen plaque that said "Not faith or works, not faith and works- but faith that works". Yup. And the only way it does in the will of God is... "by love" and that meaning HIS

Faith and Faithfulness...

See, they ain't the exact same. Faith is often discussed as in she or he "is a person of faith" and that's cool, but the practical way of actually seeing such in a person's life is by their faithfulne
