Compassion? Like This...

As I was driving home from an errand this morning, at the stop light I saw two men, one in an electric motorized cart leaning forward to use the joystick as he crossed the street and right behind him a bro in a typical wheelchair holding on to the bar on the back of the other dude's chair. They continued down the side street in the direction of our shelter (Cornerstone Community Outreach).
My mind immediately thought how cool they could assist one another like that, and in a split second I thought about recovery service.
I've often stated "Hi, my name's Glenn" and after all respond "Hi Glenn" I say "I'm a recovering sinner" typically listing my specific issues in the process as clarification.
See, all of us are either sinners or recovering sinners, but it takes others to help us along the sober path. That in itself is such a major part of getting clean and staying that way it's just so sad to see when individuals turn away from it.
Christians don't usually link the Bible phrase "selfish ambition" to recovery in this sense, but we flat-out NEED others to listen, pray, sometimes even "get up in our grill" with correction.
The pride/arrogance/"I can DO THIS MYSELF" nonsense has been the stumbling block for far too many who have literally constructed one for themselves! How easy to just blow everyone off and "go it alone".
That, dear reader, is spiritual and sometimes physical decay and even death if not checked and repented of.
It's probably rare to see a couple guys both in need of wheels working together to cross the street but the option is being stuck somewhere and not having enough strength or friendship links to move us from point A to point B.
I've been there but thank God, not for many decades!
Choose wise and compassionate friends and learn to be one. That's something I regularly work on in my own life. There's no shame in repentance and forward movement with, in and by the grace of God and help from others who've been there, done that.
And as always, thanks for stopping by! -Glenn
