We NEED Brakes and Breaks

Ever been in a car when the brakes "went out" -quit working?

Ever needed a break from the daily grind or family chaos?

Did the Spirit of God ever impress upon you the need for a humble, repentant heart before God -the need to be broken?

All of us -need- brakes and breaks of all kinds. Dependence, relationship to God and blessings come by both! ALL good!

While artists and all types of makers create in part to imagine and then construct something, I say we all need moments of therapy that take us outside of time, that is, so focused on what's being made we aren't thinking about ourselves, the problems of our life or mass of problems, disasters and horrors of the world but on the act of growing something in art with our thoughts directly on the work we're then engaged in.

Such is the blessing of our Creator nudging us to make something rather than continually ponder and battle hopelessness and doubt.

Over decades of songs with lyrics I've written about the sins, injustices and miseries of life IN my musical art I always do so with a view to the issues, my Lord and what I believe to be HIS thinking about the people, topics and offering solutions that offer grace to those in need. So even as I ponder and swim in polluted waters there is a shoreline I head for and thus personally find great peace as I create for Him and others, not merely myself.

Certainly there are problems, artistic puzzles to be worked out in the process of deciding how to create in any art form and project, but that takes our attention, we learn to connect the pieces in order to complete the task regardless of our blunders and discoveries as we work. That, by the way, inspires confidence, hope and peace until we try yet again on a new piece.

Our cries to the Lord out of brokenness in life, the world and even struggling through art-making are part of the road of true relationship to Him as well as one another who often do relate with us via what we create and share with them.

These realities have come to me over years of working in a number of artistic disciplines -and I must add my God has via prayers, been faithful to both inspire and help me to complete the various bits of artistic endeavor with a sense of joy, pleasure and praise to Him.

It is a gift of God that our brakes and breaks bless us and also, now and then truly can bless others!
