One of the joys of my life was taking woods-walks and camping trips with Curt, my father-in-law. He was a true gentle giant of a man, widely and well-read, a biblical Greek scholar, had incredible gifts of listening, grace-filled discussion, full of the Spirit and loved to fish as well.
He married my brilliant mother-in-law Dawn and together they had long morning devotions, Bible-reading and chats about all sorts of things. Both were in several areas, artists and both were blessed with creative thinking. No wonder I was and shall always be impressed with memories of them -both are home with Jesus some years past.
One of the sweet things I inherited from Curt's creativity is the piece you see here. Well, only a close-up of the top of it, as it's a long piece of tree limb he whittled-to-shape. Curt was always looking a shapes of things- moss, bark patterns, leaves, undergrowth and fallen debris in the woods. His eye was keen to see God's imaginative handiwork and he did precisely the same with troubled people who came to seek his help. He and Dawn helped to curate and serve in Cornerstone Community Outreach here on Chicago's north side, the largest homeless shelter in the area with many wrap-around programs to assist and empower the poor, in-need in this huge city.
So this piece with a few others is in my office which I daily get to see and wonder at!
A gift from one of my best gifts indeed :)
Perhaps the reader has such from a parent, sibling, other relative/s or friend/s that remind them of God's grace via them? Selah, pause and consider from time to time and give thanks to the Father of all good gifts!
And as always, thanks for stopping by. -Glenn
