Love it or hate it, agree or disagree, local, county, state, federal elections aren't going away. Neither are honest (yes) politicians OR lying, self-serving pols -and you and I, the non-politicians are just as tempted and sometimes have leapt into sin and various pretense with associated tactics to -get our way- and to h. with others. So let's be very clear about "All have sinned and fallen shot of the glory of God".
At my many year's posts on politics at my old blogsite via Wordpress at glennkaiser.com you can find plenty of my views on all this. Today I wish to state a very few points.
My main concern is that while it's correct and scriptural to focus on yourself and immediate family's needs, security and well-being I remind us Jesus said "For God so loved the world..." and also "Go into all the world and preach the Good News (Gospel), plus "Love your neighbor as yourself" and perhaps His most difficult command: "Love your enemies".
We all fail at all these and yet if we profess to follow Jesus no matter who we vote for we're either focused on ourselves or as God is, on those around us as well, and even those of other nations, nationalities, races, ethnic heritage and even religions not our own. There is simply no biblical argument annulling this.
So my suggestion is we think beyond self, immediate family and friends who agree with us on every major (to our way of thinking) issue and consider the millions throughout the U.S. and many millions beyond our borders who will literally lose their lives based on who wins in this 2024 election cycle. Park on that for a bit.
I have zero doubt you and I disagree on several key issues no matter who you support. Read that again please. I also think what I've written here is about life and death -in fact, eternity regarding whether we consider our God-commanded love for the wide world's people rather than merely caring about few but those inside our own door and yard.
I'm not going to tolerate arguments on election issues or mud-slinging here so if you post such please know I'll delete it.
That's all for now. As always, thanks for stopping by. -Glenn
Thanks for your insights, Glenn. As a (very imperfect) follower of Jesus, I deeply embrace the idea of voting on behalf of the most vulnerable in our society. It disturbs me deeply the way that immigrants in particular are being scapegoated and the amount of vitriol and xenophobia that is being spouted by many who claim to be Christ followers. God have mercy on us all.
Amen! Amen!! Last weekend I was flying to Montana for my best friends wedding, and a quick visit with one of my twin boys, and a word came to me on the plane, as I was listening to some good worship music all tearing eyed… the fields are ripe for the harvest. No matter what there are still many, many souls that need the love of Jesus.
