To Serve or Be Served?

Matthew 20.27, 28

27 "and whoever wishes to be first among you must be your slave;

28 just as the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life a ransom for many". -Jesus

Jesus is the supreme example of what a genuine Christian life should look like- but choosing loving servanthood isn't a "natural" sort of thing for most of us, and I admit often not for me either!

Yet even the very Person Who is God-in-the-flesh came to honor God the Father and give-give-give His very life -for whom? "Whosoever will, let them come".

If this is the example set by the one we call our Lord and Savior, how are we to treat others, those we think unworthy (as if we have "earned" un-earnable grace in a sinless life?!)? "Let love make you serve one another". (Gal. 5.13)

Do we ourselves come to be served or to serve others? The answer to that is a deep matter. We must face our own true motives before God.

As always, thanks for stopping by. -Glenn
