Thither and Zither

I have more than 2 dozen cigarbox and found object guitars, many quite small, 1, 2 and 3 string slide-only and a few with frets on them.

For part of Wendi and my anniversary celebration we're heading out to camp for 4 nights and I wondered what I might bring or build to take as a very quiet instrument so as not to bother other campers. I built a 1 stringer with 50 lb. test fishing line but didn't like the tone having used an old plastic harmonica case as the "body", not enough resonation but that was no surprise, I just figured I'd try.

Then I came back to one of my home brew 7 string lyres (lutes) having used that same fishing line for strings. It's quiet, great w. fingers or pick, easy to hear if you're within a few feet or so of it -perfect. This is the flat one, super simple, small, light, has zither tuners which can be adjusted with a pliers, and cool sound quality. Peaceful- which in this ol' world is such a gfit! It'll be packed along with a few other items including my ultralight fishing kit.

Fun for a little break we'll enjoy together.

As always, thanks for stopping by! -Glenn
