Sin in ANY Camp

A friend of many years privately began a discussion with me about yet another scandal re. professing followers of Jesus. He asked me heart-sick about it all, in trust because of the struggle of the issues and asked for input on how to think of it.
I began by saying I'd not been aware of the particular situation and that sometimes only God Himself literally knows the truth but also scandals are nothing new among professing believers. I've actually written a blog early this morning I'll publish in a couple days on celebrity scandals -but here let me mention David after I post my last comments which he agreed with. A kind, good bro. I'm glad to know by the way.
"Local accountability in local church with genuine folks who love God, tremble at HIS Word and don't buy into any sort of "star" syndrome are the practical answer to temptation and sin for anybody. I can't tell you how grateful I am to Jesus for such folks in my life from the start to this very day. "Sin lies at the door" and of course the issue is whether we're going to do God's will and way or whatever we get tempted to leap into. God's grace or -else... same old same old repeatedly, "CHOOSE this day who you will serve" keeps on coming around."
I woke this morning thinking about one of the only couple truly godly kings Israel ever had. He was intensely faithful to believe and follow God, deeply loved his nation but also hated his/their enemies. He became an experienced, skilled warrior in battle as a commander and brother-in-arms -the top of the crop. He was also the man to whom God sent Nathan the prophet to confront him directly about his successful plot to have a truly godly leader of his army killed in battle so he could add the man's wife- yet another beautiful woman to his already-large harem of them. He thus morphed into being a betrayer, murderer and sexual predator. How's THAT for a messed-up leader among God's people??!
One amazing thing is that he actually repented and did not kill or have Nathan quietly killed and buried which plenty of kings did and would have done in his position.
A startling takeaway for us is that God forgave him. Ponder that!
Oh, David make plenty of other mistakes and in various moments of his long life blew it in opposing God and His will -and he, his family and nation suffered for such, that's history as well.
Humility, confession and on-going relationship to Jesus, His people and repentance when we've sinned is MASSIVELY important or we morph into "white-washed sepulchres".
But for the grace of God go each and every one of us.
I regularly return to my own personal accountability for more of God, closure, peace and active grace into my life and experience. May God help you and I dear reader, to walk the walk!
As always, thanks for stopping by. -Glenn
