Only "This"...

ONLY -THIS-

-glenn kaiser

I have known so very many people chasing for a real, deep sense of satisfaction in life -who seemed to never find it. "Only this!" they seem to think and say. If "that" were finally gotten all would be well with them, their life would be complete.

Only it never happened. Worse, they got it, and "it" wasn't the fix they had been convinced would fulfill them, make life worth living.

Then there is the old saying "Sin is fun for a season". I pondered that a little and concluded there are 4 seasons per year, not just 1.

I suggest a slow, thoughtful read through Psalm One.

There are also those experiencing various trials, illness, horrible accidents or what we call natural disasters who had followed Jesus now no longer trust Him or His Word. Burned by churches or professing Christian people, a so-called Christian boss and etc., they've gone back to following themselves or someone else who impressed them more.

Some retained unforgiveness, fermenting bitterness that corroded their hearts toward people and for some, God Himself.

Easier to blame God for the struggles than to give Him thanks for all the good He brings our way? Far easier in comparison to accepting blame for our foolish choices and major self focus. You wouldn't be the first and surely won't be the last. I've been there!

When we don't seem to get "a break" we may well end up broken. Yet the constant in all of this is self. Eyes on self rather than God is the last idol to go.

IF we repent and daily walk with Him the trajectory of our life becomes as Paul wrote:

Colossians. 3.1 "Therefore if you have been raised up with Christ, keep seeking the things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. 2. Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth. 3. For you have died and your life is hidden with Christ in God. 4. When Christ, who is our life, is revealed, then you also will be revealed with Him in glory."

A continual face-in-the-mirror and chasing fulfillment is a sure way to miss it completely. So many have, do, shall, and it's "nobody's fault but mine" as Blind Willie Johnson sang.

God help us for we cannot in the end, find the help we need without a continuing faith-walk with Jesus -and in His love. Only Him.
