Lean- but Don't Lean...

The Book of Proverbs surely instructs us to "get knowledge", "get wisdom" and also to "get understanding". We see New Testament phrases such as "we have the mind of Christ" and "you have no need for man to teach you" while at the same time Proverbs tells us "lean NOT to your own understanding".

Ok, so it's the Spirit of God Who fully knows (Deity-Trinity!), in one sense -is- the actual, absolute mind of God -no limits in Him.

Does God reveal things to His prophets and even to not-prophets children? Of course! But if we're not honest with genuine humility we can and at times have been (are?) deceived as has every other Christ-follower just as unbelievers. TRUTH? Well, then...

Leaning to OUR OWN understanding might be rightly considered all we've got in one sense. Right now while on earth there is no literal know-it-all among human beings including the dude writing this. It's true of every reader, every scholar, everybody.

The issue is on what and whom we lean.

Paul said "Follow me as I follow Christ", not "think, speak and behave as I do because I'm literally already perfected"!

These are important things to consider as some lean on all sorts of things, dope, the bottle, sex, education, titles, roles, individuals and entire groups they think will help them understand and navigate life and trials. While God indeed instills truth and excellent counsel through flawed people the issue of ultimate trust has to come down to not only our faith but loving obedience to the Lord Himself, to what HE has said, not merely what people have told us or what passes through our own minds. You, myself, all of us often make mistakes in our reasoning and our choices, let's face that fact.

The bottom line is not leaning on -our own- understanding.

This is why I study God's Word (Bible) several times most every day. Further, beyond academics, I NEED to lean on Him in relationship, not mere rhetoric or memorization of information.

Without love even understanding isn't sufficient!

Things to consider? I believe so- and as always, thanks for stopping by. -Glenn
