"Knit Together... in Love"

Paul writing to the church in Colossae uses that phrase to describe his hard word and prayers for the believers in Laodicea... yes... one of the very churches Jesus mentions in His strong rebuke and warning regarding sin within the churches in the Book of Revelation. What gives?
Today I spent a few minutes sew-patching a thick old pair of winter socks I've used for many seasons. The heel area finally gave way but I just didn't want to toss 'em out so got out needle, good thread and went to work. Thankfully nobody will see my work as it's under the heel on the flat, heh!
I grew up watching my Mom sew and knit and actually tried to learn to knit when very young but didn't have the patience for it. What I did learn to do was use the proper needles and best thread for quick-fixing jeans, this or that flannel shirt and of course buttons on shirts as she was often at her day job when I needed such done.
I've watched my amazing Wendi use sewing machines like my Mom did, and knit amazingly beautiful and often very intricate pieces for many years. I'm the proud wearer/owner of several of her voyageur hats, finger-less gloves and cowls that warm me in winter -as well as a favorite sweater she made me years ago.

Today as I worked on this sock I remembered Paul's phrase which I've always loved.
To be knit together means close-thread relationship, a loving, in-kind tight weave that will hold regardless of the pressures that come to the threads.
Such speaks to me of marriage, family, community and various church bonds that can form out of love -in this case, God's love which is in many ways different than the human loves of any sort.
We cannot tell from the biblical record how things turned out for those professing followers of Jesus in Laodicea, but I'm certain that the warmth my socks provide due to tight thread and care will continue on. Yet the Love of God is eternal, continually seeking the good of all connected to Him. May that be the case among us re. our love for Him and for one another due to the will, desire and work of God's Spirit and His calling to each of us!
And as always, thanks for stopping by. -Glenn
