God's Heart for US!
How easy and what a lie it is to believe we are not loved, not desired by God. How quick we are to believe like flawed, sinful, prejudiced humans that our heavenly Father, that Jesus doesn't love us and will not accept us- because it's happened so often that people haven't truly loved us- and we know we've had the same attitudes toward others.
In the following I'm focused not on the wider context but the core points which sadly, too many of us are tempted to just gloss over.
Jesus in His prayer to the Father for His disciples: John 17.23b "You loved them, just as You loved Me" and vs. 25b "You loved them, just as You loved Me"! Wow... this is about His disciples -are you and I disciples of Jesus also?
Paul in Romans 8.39b "[nothing] will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord"! Rather complete statement if you read through the chapter in context. Incredible love from the One Who IS Love.
Jude 21a "keep yourselves in the love of God" So... this begins with our mind re. how we think about Him and ourselves, continuing prayer, the Words of God (Bible) and our risking faith, trust and surrender to His will due to His heart-attitude towards us.
Jesus: John 3.16 "For God so loved the world..." -that He GAVE HIS BEST for us all, even for the worst of us! Jesus' coming and coming again in God's timing is all about love. Oh there will be judgment for those who deny and exclude Him but that's not God's core intent re. the Good News and it's the task of believers to proclaim it in genuine attitudes, words and actions. Again, it begins with how we think about Him!
If this sounds "too oowey-gooey" to some of you consider:
The very word "repent" in the depth of biblical Greek means to "re-think"! Oh yes, to seek forgiveness for our sins, to turn around, to do life God's way according to His Word but in the end what we believe God thinks about us is bottom-line essential to our sense of peace and value.
Jesus- John 6.37b "the one who comes to Me I will certainly not cast out"
Until and unless we see ourselves in need and in relationship to the Lord we walk in a spiritual fret and perhaps depression due to our lack of trust in Him and His Word above our own thoughts. That, dear reader, is a colossal mistake- but it's not one we can't do something to change as per His mind toward us and a few of the practical spiritual things we can do about it as per what you've just read here.
And as always, thanks for stopping by! -Glenn
