"Church" The Rest of the Week?

I get it- people are tired, often overloaded and overwhelmed by various work, family, illnesses, the political spit (and little polish) and cares of this world. Jesus warned about how "the cares of this world" have the capacity to tarnish and warp us with regard to God.

So off "to church" on Sunday morning and in some cases perhaps Sunday night or even Wednesday for prayers, songs and singing, hopefully a relating, inspiring Word of God given by a thoughtful and lively speaker or two, some coffee and at least surface chatter and back to the grind.

Most all reading this know "church" is the people, it's us. It's "them" not only people like we are whom we are called to reach out to, be living testimonies of God's love, grace and care. It's not the organization or building as per what scripture teaches us.

Do -not- neglect meeting together which is the habit of some. And yet the habit of getting our own spiritual batteries charged and a bit of relief come Sunday can be quite compartmentalized in a "secular" world. For many it sadly is.

I've mentioned in blog posts before how the first time I attended a local church and as we left after the gathering saw the words "Now Entering The Mission Field" above the door I smiled and thought "THAT should be inscribed on the inside and above EVERY church exit"!

It goes further that the mission Jesus calls us -all- to.

Praying "without ceasing", studying His and the whole of the Bible's words, application of them, wise and balanced teaching and devotional books and deep and wide studies and devotional materials online via our various devices via reading, listening, watching are available to many if not most people on the planet now in 2026.

How easily distracted we can be (consider Martha's encounter with Jesus as Mary simply sat as His feet and listened)! Quiet, silenced focus on our Father, Son, Spirit as the rest of these points of a quality relationship with God are often left while the Lord continually has to "wait His turn" due to our understandable but what can be spiritually eroding necessities (some which are -not- needed by us) and lack of reaching up and out as we surely could do.

Many will defend the basics of human life versus all I'm saying here. Even genuine followers of Jesus will call for "a more practical" view of life in a busy, needful world. Did Jesus not eat, drink, sleep, travel, use the toilet, interact with (in His case) literally thousands of people, therefore having appointments daily? Yes! And yet His focus was on the Father and on the people continually. He would often move away from His own disciples, sometimes with them, to "a solitary place" to pray, to rest, then move right back into the "every-day" of loving relational service.

Sundays are great- but I think the rest of the week is at least equally important for a true Christ-follower!

For ourselves as well as those around us it may well be even more eternally important in the end. Ponder that please.

I'm not at all saying we should take a sabbatical from the Sabbath, rather I'm reminding us there are six other days in the week and people all around us we'll never see in the building. Salt in the shaker seasons nothing. Lord open our eyes and hearts!

And as always, thanks for stopping by. -Glenn
