"Christian" Music?

I've taught and written on this for many years being a follower of Jesus and musician as well.

Being recently reminded of a social media discussion I chimed in on many moons ago I decided to re-post my thoughts here in very, very brief.

A couple decades past a prominent and industry-related site asked me to define it as well where then, I wrote a longer article including that Jesus died for people, not sound waves of any particular sort. The stricter concept that there even -is- such a thing as "saved" music aside from saved people is a wash. But of course people are talking about lyrics as that's the only part of actual music that may or may not relate.

Of course there are genuine and not followers of Jesus who play music and if we are considering their attitudes, behaviors and lifestyles that of course may lead us to conclude they are or perhaps are not following Him -or are or are not maturing in Christ -but that focuses on people and not the music itself. The labeling of this or that song, collection of them or whatever "Christian" doesn't connect when what we're really talking about are the people who may write and/or perform it.

Now what I wrote in social media some years later:

"My personal view- re. "Christian music" in 2021 as an "industry and/or market" is that tons of lyrics in the very Book of Psalms wouldn't get airplay nor sales in it. Not sterile, safe, nor 98 percent "up" feeling enough. Integrity in the lyrics of God's Word reflects crosses as well as kisses."

In very brief, that's what I believe and why.

And as always, thanks for stopping by :) -Glenn
