"Boring" Stability

If anyone reading this or anyone you know lives in near-constant chaos, stability is something to consider!
What? I often call it "boring stability". You know, getting out of bed in the morning, off to school or work, same-old, not flamingly exciting, just day-in-day-out with some minutes of rest, play here and there in the week or on some of your weekend. That's it. Simple- and chosen by people like myself.
"But" you might say "you live an exciting life Glenn! You and your family needs are met, as a musician you get to record, travel cool places and you don't have to face such a mundane life." My response?
When I surrendered (and that's the most accurate word I can think of) to Jesus as my Lord and Savior, finally allowing Him to call the shots and move me in HIS plan of decision-making for my life I left a massive trail of insecurity, confusion, chaos, addictions, running from one "fix" to another behind. WHEN I surrendered to Him and His calling, plan and in faith began to recognize the strangest thing ever in my own life? Stability. Peace with God. Inner peace even in the midst of working with troubled, unstable people right through the years due to God's call on my life.
Oh believe me, temptations to use, to leap into fresh addictions, to run, to -not- be around messed-up people, to escape from entanglements in their chaos came to mind and more often than not, especially in my early walk with the Lord.
Yet I recognized God's grace, healing, clear sense of purposes He had for me along the path (God's Word and prayer right through my day, regular voluntary accountability, serving others) and as I learned to obey Him in love for Him and others if not for myself- greater peace and even more stability grew and grew inside my daily life.
As I look back I couldn't be more amazed at the doors He opened as well as closed, both blessing and protecting me from disasters I have seen in so many other's lives. Over and over again I've said it- I choose "boring stability" over the adrenaline rush of chaos whenever
possible.
At times people invite me into their life and the signs are often very clear indeed. They've not surrendered to HIS choices for them just yet, or in key areas, and so that roller coaster of up and down and all around and life like the melting clocks on the Dali painting, craziness of emotions and trashed relationships both with people and yes, with God Himself is the rotten fruit of such a life.
As long as you breathe you can reach out to the Lord, choose HIS choices as per His Word, link with sane, stable people who love Him and have the courage to speak truth in love to you -or not. Blind cannot lead the blind so choose to find people who are stable if you aren't and follow their example, take their advice, risk learning from folks who don't now share your own instability but are a bit further down the road of discipleship in Jesus.
Meanwhile, those around a chaotic life can pray and hopefully live such a calm and focused-on-God lifestyle that the person in question may eventually turn to Him and quit the horror ride.
Nobody does it perfectly, mistake or even sin-free, but the risk of addicts who only hang out with those who habitually use is no cure for addiction. I'll take the pains of gaining stability and peace over the costs of chaotic insanity any day of the week! In fact, I did and do :)
Boring stability?! ALLELUIA!! Thanks be to God it's a real and genuine option to "whosoever will, let them come"!
And as always, thanks for stopping by. -Glenn
