Look, I've no room to judge as my own old nature is truly bent toward addiction, only by God's grace am I living recovery one day at a time. My false gods/idols were as usual, self-self and self. But in the practical, back in the day drugs and music. I still have to fight sexual and food temptations, and I can already hear some of you thinking "Like me..." and except for perhaps, details, I get that.
And yet there IS hope because I experience clean and sober by: Almighty God and His grace in Jesus by the Spirit; feeding my recovery from God's Word, recovery and biblical materials, prayer and help from accountability partners. One. Day. At. A. Time.
So why the title of this post?
"Again" because I have written and spoken about these matters many, many times over the years. Secondly, because just this morning I heard clear, substantive truths (not merely gossip or false judgment) about 3 different people sadly (hard word coming here...) like a dog returning to it's vomit all 3 swirling in addictions they had overcome only falling/jumping into the traps yet again.
No recovery material you'll ever read does not tell you at base that there is no getting clean unless you WANT to be clean. Nothing anyone tries, says, does can bring healing, change and genuine healthy recovery if a person does not choose to reach for, apply and maintain tried-and-proven tools to stay sober from whatever the addiction/s are they find attractive.
A key thing I BLESS God for often is Paul's statement in 1 Corinthians chapter 10 verse 13: No temptation has overtaken you but such as is common to man; and God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will provide the way of escape also, so that you will be able to endure it.
"Common?" you may ask? Yes. Temptation is one major common denominator for all human beings. The particular sort of what robs, kills, destroys us may differ but in the end IF IF IF we are willing to reach for Him and the tools He provides we can overcome.
Prayers up for 3 more people God loves every bit as much as He loves me.
As always, thanks for stopping by. -Glenn
